Just Do It: How to Let Go of Perfectionism and Finally Take Action
Do you ever feel like you have great ideas but somehow never manage to take action? You think everything has to be perfect before you can even start? If so, you’re definitely not alone. Many of us – especially solopreneurs and creatives – get stuck with this mindset. But the good news is: You can overcome these hurdles – starting now.
The Fear of Starting
Starting something new can be pretty intimidating. Whether it’s a business, a project, or a new routine, we often think we need to research more, prepare better, or wait for the perfect moment when everything aligns. But the truth is: That perfection never comes. Perfectionism is often what holds us back the most.
Maybe you’ve had those doubts too: “Will anyone even listen to this? There are already so many people out there doing the same thing. What can I contribute that’s new?” Or you feel like you’re just not the type who talks a lot or constantly puts yourself out there.
Perfectionism – Your Biggest Obstacle
I can totally relate to that. I’ve often thought everything had to be perfect before I could start (like with my YouTube channel) – the technology, the presentation, the content. But that kind of thinking only holds you back. The truth is: It’s not about being perfect from the start. It’s about just getting started. Everything else will evolve along the way.
I had to learn this the hard way. My perfectionism kept me from really pushing projects forward time and time again. But once I finally let go of that need for everything to be flawless, things became so much easier – and so much more got done.
The First Step is the Hardest
Here’s the thing: The first step is always the hardest. But once you take it, everything gets easier. It’s like jumping into cold water – it feels uncomfortable at first, but once you’re in, it’s refreshing.
I remember when I was doing my yoga teacher training. At the beginning, I couldn’t imagine standing in front of a group and teaching. Just the thought of it made me anxious. But at some point, I overruled my own fears and spontaneously agreed to take over a substitution class. And that was the breakthrough. Sometimes, putting yourself in a situation where you can’t back out is what gets you into action – no more hesitation.
Embrace Your Multi-Passionate Nature as a Strength
Maybe it’s also the number of ideas that’s holding you back. You’ve got so many projects in your head that you don’t even know where to start. That abundance can be paralyzing. But instead of letting it overwhelm you, see your multi-passionate nature as a strength. Focus on one thing and just take the first step. The rest will follow.
When you have a lot of interests, it’s not always easy to prioritize. But once you start, you’ll notice how much easier things become and how they start to fall into place on their own.
Conclusion: Just Do It
If you feel like perfectionism or self-doubt is holding you back, remember that the first step is the hardest. It doesn’t have to be perfect – it just has to get done. Allow yourself to be imperfect and grow along the way. Whether it’s in your business or personal projects – take the leap and just start.
What’s holding you back right now? Maybe today is the day you take that first step.
